K9 Mira (Retired)

Narcotics/Tracking/Pipeline

K9 Mira ("MEER-ah") was a German Short-haired Pointer (GSP) born in Hungary and the K9 that launched K316 Detection.  K9 Mira was trained to detect marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin.  K9 Mira was a 2020 graduate of Shallow Creek Kennels Class 141 and continued to certify annually through North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA) throughout her career.

K9 Mira was involved in countless local, state and federal investigations resulting in the seizure of large amounts of controlled substances as well as the forfeiture of thousands of dollars used in drug trafficking.  K9 Mira had numerous successful seizures where heavy deception and masking techniques were used to avoid K9 detection.

In 2022 K9 Mira's agency retired her following changes in marijuana legislation.  K9 Mira was purchased by her handler to continue her work in the area school systems which quickly expanded to detention centers, sober living facilities, US government locations, industrial sites and more.

K9 Mira developed a large following due to her team's involvement in the community and social media and was featured in the book Tails of Montana published in 2022.

The solid foundation of skill, knowledge and experience that K9 Mira helped establish for K316 Detection continues through our other K9 teams.
